I've always been drawn to the creative side of my personality!
In grade school, it was artwork. I was good, but I'm not sure I was gifted - or even close - but it was an expressive outlet that brought me much joy and satisfaction.
I college, I repressed that part of my nature in the pursuit of the almighty American dollar. But money is a seductve liar. It will tell you that it is the answer to your problems, the happiness and comfort we all wish for. In the end, I couln't stop nature!
In 1990, I started working for my father in Baltimore as an Embroidery Digitizer. That means that I learned to create designs that would be embroidered onto clothing: hats, shirts ...
In 1996, I started my own digitzing business: Blue Ridge Custom Designs, Inc. That's been a fruitful venture at times. More importantly, it allowed me an outlet for that creative nature I spoke of above. That year, I created the first "crazy font" shirt for my son. We sold a few to the local schools and I put it on a shelf.
It wasn't until 2003 that we figured out how to sell these to a wider audience. Over the last six or seven years, when my digitizing business was slow, we were able to supplement our income with these great shirts. And since then, we've sold some of these great shirts to over 600 Elementary schools!
We even provide a custom sample for each new school that thinks they might be interested in ordering. Want to take a look for yourself?
